Waiting

Isaiah 40:29-31New King James Version (NKJV)

29 He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
31 But those who wait on the Lord
Shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.

Progressing through life and moving through the various seasons, there often comes times when we have to wait. How we wait is determined largely by us, but it is a given that there will be seasons of waiting. So what do you do? How do you wait?

First off, it’s exhilarating when everything flows smoothly and we are on cloud nine…doing fine on cloud nine…flying high on cloud nine. When things suddenly stopped flowing as you desired them to do, or when you hit a slump, a slight detour, a roadblock or a hiccup, what do you do?

I’ll answer that in one word–Wait!

WAIT expectantly knowing that things will change.

WAIT and continue to do what you know you need to do and are able to do.

WAIT as you go about serving others.

WAIT–fasting, praying, worshipping and praising. Thanking God in advance for the manifestations.

WAIT knowing that God who has created each and every one of us is in control of our seasons. We do our part, WAIT, and trust God to do the rest.

Partial Lyrics to Juanita Bynum’s “I Don’t Mind Waiting”

I don’t mind waiting
I don’t mind waiting
I don’t mind waiting on you Lord
I don’t mind waiting
I don’t mind waiting
I don’t mind waiting on you Lord
None of us truly likes to wait, however we realize that as we go from one level to the next, waiting plays a tremendous role in the process. That’s a given.
Do you mind waiting? Do you fall completely apart when life causes you to stop dead in your tracks or do you worship, work, praise God, serve others, study, learn, grow and realize that this is necessary for your growth? How we wait is extremely important!
There will be seasons of downtime. I believe we spend more time waiting as we go from one venture to another, than we do progressing. Notice I said, “I believe”.
Imagine if you will, you set out to lose weight. You start to eat properly. You exercise. You do everything you know you need to do BUT you see no results for weeks, perhaps even months. You’re waiting to see the results but you START on your journey to become fit KNOWING that at some point and time you will get there. You set your target dates for your weight loss. You may or may not hit the mark on that particular day but you see lots of improvement. You feel better. You look better. The scales however are not your friend as they show you DID NOT accomplish your targeted weight. Do you shake your head and just say “I quit” or do you set another date and keep moving forward?
Let’s say, you are in school. You expect to graduate within a certain time period. Life happens, the hiccups come in the form of sickness (either yourself or a loved one), financial issues, and any number of other things. Life happens!  These prevent you from graduating on your expected date. Do you just throw up your hands in despair and say “It’s just too hard. I quit!” or do you get back on track as life permits and trudge forward later accomplishing your goal, vision and dream of graduating?
Do you mind waiting? You might as well not mind, but make up your mind that you will determine how you WAIT. He gives us the strength to WAIT. It is necessary.
