lord-change-me-evelyn-christensonEvelyn Christenson, author of numerous books, wrote this amazing book which went on to become a worldwide phenomenon. What I’d like to share with you in this article is the fact that often we pray for God to change everyone else when we are the ones who need to change. Yes, the change should begin with us and perhaps then we will begin to see the change take place in others.

Michael Jackson sang the song “Man in the Mirror” and a part of the lyrics goes…”I’m starting with the man in the mirror. I’m asking him to change his ways. And no message could have been any clearer. If you wanna make the world a better place, take a look at yourself and then make that change.”  Yes we need to start with the person staring back at us from the mirror.

The bible tells us (and I paraphrase) while we are spending so much time looking at that tiny speck in another’s eye, we should be dealing with the big plank in our own eyes. Amen, somebody?

The bible also tells us to examine ourselves. How many honestly do that on a regular basis? Or do you spend so much time blaming this one or that one for any and everything without considering the part you may have played in whatever took place?

Do you spend an enormous amount of time focusing on other’s faults, flaws, and limitations that your focus is off the one that it really needs to be on? Do you just LOVE to point out someone else’s flaws or inadequacies thinking doing so makes you look better? It really doesn’t. Reality check:  It just shows your insecurities and the fact that you are not doing what you need to do.

Do you take pleasure in the downfall of another and instead of helping a brother or sister UP, you use your mouth, your resources, your talents and gifts to step on the person to try to keep them down? I’m writing this to get you as well as myself to consider the parts we play or have played in certain situations and relationships in our lives…and to encourage us all to let our constant prayer be…”Lord, Change Me!”

Any of you remember the song, “It’s me, it’s me, it’s me oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer. Not my brother, not my sister, but it’s me oh Lord, standing in the need of prayer.”

I’ve heard, and stated myself often, that if one is not a part of the solution, they are a part of the problem. Be a part of the solution.

Let us all this week begin to pray the sincere prayer from the bottom of our heart, “Lord, Change Me!” Listen and watch what God does in our lives.

One thing that Mrs. Christenson had people do when praying that prayer was to go to a quiet place, read from a specific chapter in the bible, and then read ONLY until God speaks and tells one to stop. Take the time to listen to what He has to say to you about the changes you need to make. She stated it is at that point that many began to experience an awakening as the Spirit led each person to stop right at the point of issues or answers they had been searching for, and as a result revival broke out and lives were changed…for His glory.

I encourage you to purchase and read the entire book. If you are REALLY serious about changing for the better, get the book.

“Lord, Change Me!” Let the revival begin!
