Becoming and Being Wise According to Proverbs

Many speak longingly of having more wisdom as if it were something that totally escapes their grasps or something that is unattainable.  It’s not.  James 1:5 tells us that if any of us lack wisdom, let us ask God that gives liberally or freely to all that ask.  Verse 6 states that we must ask unwavering or basically expecting to be given the wisdom we need and desire for the situations we face.

So you see it is attainable;  it is something within each of our reach and perfect examples are found in the book of Proverbs.

The book of Proverbs has 31 chapters and is full of scriptures to teach one what a wise person is, how to become wise, what a wise person does not do—it is the book of wisdom.

So let’s see some of the attributes of a wise person—

  1. A wise person hears and increases learning and a person of understanding attains wise counsel.  Proverbs 1:5
  2. A wise person shuns or avoids evil and stay away from the counsel of the unwise or of sinners. Proverbs 4:14
